    Asphalt Shingle Roofing

When an economical, durable roof is the goal, many homeowners choose asphalt composition shingles. Affordable and fast to install, these shingles are the most common roofing material used in most roofing replacement projects. Most commonly manufactured with a fiberglass mat base, they are coated or saturated with asphalt, and then coated with an asphalt-based adhesive and covered with ceramic-coated mineral granules. A wide range of colors are available to suit any home. With manufacturers limited warranties ranging from 25 years to a lifetime, a properly installed asphalt composition roof will look great on your home and last for decades. You don’t have to compromise on quality for the affordable cost of your new asphalt shingle roof.

When it comes to cost there is no simple answer. The size of your home, the complexity of your roof, your choice of materials, and the preparations needed to get ready to install your new roof all play roles in determining the total cost. When a representative from Coty Construction comes to your home to prepare an price estimate, your roof will be measured, a range of available materials will be presented,  and all factors will be taken into consideration. We will then provide you with an accurate price quote that includes everything that goes into the job. Our prices are always competitive, and our experience and care in installing your roof make all the difference.

    Metal Roofing

Metal roofing is used on a variety of different homes from large mansions to the standard 4-bedroom rambler. Metal roofs provide energy savings, beauty, and protection for your home that can last a lifetime. Residential metal roofs are available in a wide variety of designs to complement any style home. Offered in a rainbow of colors, your metal roof can be a traditional vertical seam profile, or be manufactured to resemble wood shake, slate, shingles or clay tiles.

In return for choosing a metal roof, and paying more upfront, you will save money in the long term with the added benefit of environmental friendliness. Traditional roofing materials, including asphalt shingles, supply an estimated 20 billion pounds of waste to U.S. landfills annually, whereas metal roofs can often be installed over an existing roof, eliminating the cost and eco-impact of tear-off and disposal.

Many residential metal roofs now utilize reflective pigment technology, which results in overall home energy efficiency and lower utility bills. In addition, all metal roofs are made from 30-60% recycled material.

While other people in your neighborhood may need to replace the roof on their home multiple times over the years, having a high-quality metal roof can help you avoid having to replace your roof as it will most likely be the last roof you ever have to put on. Metal roofing is tough to crack, and rarely shrinks or erodes. A metal roofing system will also stand up against intense weather conditions including the heavy Minnesota snow, hail storms and freezing temperatures.

    Cedar Shake and Shingle Roofing

Cedar shake and shingle roofs have long been the gold standard of roofing materials when a completely natural roof with a unique appearance is the goal. Red cedar shakes and shingles are made from sustainable, renewable red cedar; grown specifically for this use. Long lasting and with aging qualities that gently change in appearance over the years, a red cedar roof is the perfect complement for many homes around Minnesota’s lakes and lakeshore communities. From cottages to stately mansions, the natural beauty and unique qualities of red cedar shake and shingle roofs make them a desirable choice for any fine home. For a truly “green” roof for your home, insist on genuine western red cedar shakes and shingles, installed by our meticulous crews. Your new roof will enhance your home’s beauty and value.

The unique, natural beauty and enduring qualities of a shake or shingle roof comes at a higher price than most other types of roofing. These natural materials, with their variations and organic, green qualities are somewhat more expensive than many roofing materials, and installation techniques are specialized and labor intensive. However, multiple grades of western red cedar shakes and shingles help homeowners take control over the total cost for their new roof. The finely honed skills and efficiency of the installers at our top-quality roofing company in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area also contribute to keeping costs down. Finally, though, it is the natural beauty and unique nature of a cedar shake or shingle roof that leads homeowners to choose this roofing material, despite the higher cost.

Understanding the differences between shakes and shingles is an important factor in selecting materials for your roof. Red cedar shakes are thicker, overall, than red cedar shingles. Shakes are usually chosen for their rustic, three-dimensional appearance, while shingles can produce a highly tailored appearance that is sometimes preferred by homeowners for both modern and traditional architecture. Shakes are available with smooth, sawn exposed surfaces or naturally rough, split exterior surfaces, while shingles are sawn on both sides for a smooth appearance. Red cedar shingles are also available in custom sawn designs on the exposed end when a special effect is desired. Finally, you can also choose factory pre-treated shakes and shingles to protect against deterioration and to reduce fire hazards, or have treatments applied on-site. When you contact Coty Construction, we’ll be happy to show you all of the possibilities so you can make a fully informed choice.

Installing a red cedar shake or shingle roof properly is not a job for amateurs or the general run of roofers. These natural materials, with their variations, and the exacting nature of applying shakes and shingles to create a sound, water-shedding, enduring shake or shingle roof means that only roofers with extensive experience should be trusted to install your roof. At Coty Construction, red cedar shake and shingle roofs are a roofing specialty we’re very proud of. Our installers have the long experience, patience, and skills to create the very best shake and shingle roofs in the area. We treat shake and shingle roofs as art, with your beautiful home as our canvas.

Here at Coty Construction we specialize in the creation, maintenance, and repair of cedar shake and shingle roofs for individuals in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. Our expert roofers are uniquely qualified and experienced in creating durable cedar roofs that reflect the pride of ownership of our valued customers.

    Specialty Roofing Projects

In Minnesota, flat and low-slope roofs are used on a few homes in the area, and on many outbuildings and small to medium-sized commercial buildings. Our winter snows are the reason most homes have pitched roofs designed to shed snow, so residential roofs in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area generally have roof pitches steeper than in some other parts of the country. For those buildings with flat roofs or roofs with pitches less than 2” per foot, Minnesota’s roofing requirements dictate that only high quality roofing practices are adequate. At Coty Construction, we’re often called on to install roofs for these buildings because our quality-oriented roofing produces superior results, handling snow and melt water efficiently and thoroughly. The reason is our attention to detail and uncompromising insistence on top-quality roofing materials and installation.

Flat and low-slope roofs present unique issues. The roofing materials must be completely impervious to water penetration and applied to provide a seamless, sealed, continuous cover for the roof. In Minnesota, the large amount of snow presents additional considerations, since accumulated snow remains on the roof, slowly melting. That melt water must be able to drain from the roof, and the roofing material must keep it from penetrating into the building’s interior. Our Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area roofing company has long experience in installing and maintaining these low-slope and flat roof systems. We used extensively these types of roofing systems, manufactured by CertainTeed, Mule-Hide and other top-quality suppliers, to handle the special requirements posed by these roofs.

Made of synthetic rubber with special formulations to handle the extremes of temperature, sunlight, and accumulating snow that roofs must accommodate for in Minnesota, EPDM membrane roofs are a natural choice for low-slope roofs. Available in a range of thicknesses and installation methods, EPDM membrane roofs are a common solution. This roofing material, installed to create a continuous, waterproof barrier against water penetration, produces ideal results for many building types and designs. Careful installation and attention to detail is required for a quality EPDM roof. Which will result in a sound, leak-free roof that will last. At our Minnesota roofing company, we have the training, equipment, and experience needed to handle installation of your EPDM roof with the same meticulous care and focus on quality and cost-effectiveness we bring to every roofing job.

As another type of membrane roof, these roofs are made up of a mat of synthetic fibrous materials, saturated with a modified bitumen material, and topped with a layer of ceramic-coated granules. Applied over a carefully prepared deck, the roof is a multi-layer assembly, using a base sheet, followed by the granule-coated top layer. Different roof environments use different installation processes. The material comes in rolls, which are placed with overlapping seams. Those seams can be sealed using cold-sealing adhesives or heat welding, depending on conditions and the selected materials. The result is a continuous membrane that blocks all penetration of water. As with all low-slope and flat roof installations, installation must be done with great care and with attention to every detail, including flashings and roof penetrations. The skilled, experienced roofers Coty Construction will install your roof with special attention paid to achieving a long lasting, trouble free roof.

What Is the Cost of a Flat or Low-Slope Roof?

The cost of any flat low-slope commercial roof can only be determined after an estimate is made by one of our commercial roofing consultants. The type of materials to be used, the square footage and structure of your roof, the amount of preparation required, and other factors are all part of determining the total cost for a new or replacement flat roof. As the most dependable Twin Cities roofing company, we’ll provide you with a detailed cost estimate that includes all factors. After discussing types of materials with you and measuring the area to be roofed, our dependable sales representative will provide you with a detailed cost estimate. At Coty Construction our pricing is always very competitive and we’ll work with you to meet your needs and budget.
